The Portland cement process starts with crushing the principal raw materials, mainly limestone and clay, which are ground together moving the refined material to the preheater before being fed to the cement kiln. The heat of the kiln releases off gases while binding and discharging clinker product into a cooler system before being ground again with a source of sulfate like gypsum to produce cement. Portland cement product is graded into several classes based on the ASTM C150 Standard Specification for Portland Cement. Portland Cement is the key ingredient in concrete used for infrastructure, commercial and residential construction.
